The Enigma of a Movie poster

Have you ever noticed how movie posters make heads turn, especially when they are not displayed at a movie theater? Do you feel movie posters somehow connect you to a definite period of your life if that movie was shown in the theaters?

Movie posters have always needed a certain magnetism around them that sparks memories off of the movie it portrays as well as the symbolism of this movie itself. As an example, the classical movie poster of Gone with the Wind resembles the romance and tragedy of its time. Many people who watched this movie for first time throughout the 60s are reminded of their youth anytime they catch a peek of this poster. They reflect on the naivety of that time and the way they’d imagined themselves like Rhett Butler or even Scarlett O’Hara. Maybe they’d observed this movie with their sweethearts and are aware of the good times they had then.

Should you observe each movie poster with caution, you’ll also observe that they have all been carefully designed and put together with good imagination. Naturally, ahead of the
launch of a movie that these posters will need to appear interesting, attractive or mysterious so as to qualify as publicity material. However, so as to be all that, the theme of a design needs to reflect the elements of the movie, and to be authentic and original. Most importantly, it must appeal to the mass audience. People should want to say to them,”I wonder exactly what this movie will be about” if they see a movie poster. Whether this reaction is successfully made, then the movie poster has attained its objective.

People collect movie posters for various factors. Naturally there are the teenaged collectors who put up movie posters to reflect their own identity. Many swoon over their movie star idols and consequently put up their posters to show themselves and everyone who they adore. Regardless of the reason is, most teens constitute the majority of movie poster collectors.

It is like collecting stamps, coins or baseball cards. They maintain their posters safe and put up the ones they love most. Maybe it doesn’t bring much monetary satisfaction to these, but those posters are usually an object of admiration. The way by which the components within these posters are uniquely put together creates an enigma that no other thing can.

Nevertheless there are also people who frame up movie images and use them as decorative pictures for their residence. To them, the movie poster is still a work of art and is to be admired. Also, to the romantics, movie images remind them of a time in their lives which may have been pleasurable, happy or just memorable. Movie posters come with a way of bringing us back in time, particularly to a season if things were much more complicated, and movies were always good events to look forward to.
